AMA International Championship, Nottingham

23rd February 2003
This weekend the team brings back a clutch of medals from stunning performances at the AMA International Championship in Nottingham. The past few weeks of intensive training have finally paid off, with Charlotte Thomas winning first place in the cadets category and the kata team also achieving a gold-winning performance.

Hanna Clevely maintained her strong record and also won gold in the 13-15 year old brown belt category. Claire Bonello has returned from a short rest from competition and took fourth place with a brave effort. Enzo himself won third place in the men's black belt category. Lee-Teng also gave a very good performance in the black belt category

Last, but certainly not least, Sophie Wise took the silver in the 10-15 year old category; Ali Boran won 3rd place in the brown belt category of the same age group; and Alfie Wise took part in his first International competition - being knocked out in the first round by a black belt.

Enzo is incredibly pleased with everyone in the team. "They've worked really hard and the last three or four weeks I've really pushed them. But the hard work has definitely paid off," he said. Well done everyone.

Training Timetable Change

21st February 2003
The Monday training session next week (24th February) will not be held at Banstead due to half term. Instead the lesson will be run at Coombe Girls School. Please note that the main gates will be locked so use the staff entrance.

Squad session

6th February 2003
This coming Sunday (9th February) there will be an extra karate session at Coombe Girls School for those wanting to compete in the BTKA National competition on the 2nd March this year.

It will run from 1.30pm until 5.30pm. See you there.

Senior grading successes

1st February 2003
On Saturday Hannah Clevely and Isobelle Grant passed their 2 Kyu grading. Enzo is ecstatic over the quality of their performance - well done girls.

Hannah and Isobelle are members of Enzo's Kata A team, which won the gold medal in the Thompson Trophy Junior Kata Competition last year.
