NEWS ARCHIVE: OCTOBER 2002

British Karate Federation

26th - 27th October 2002
The BTKA team achieved some very good results in the BKF competition, starting with Charlotte Thomas in the cadet category, who won second place.

Clare Bonello just missed third place after her shoulder locked itself up, although she managed to complete the kata and came fourth in the ladies' senior black belt category. Enzo Quirino started well, passing the first round only to be denied going through to the third by a judge's decision.

The kumite event started with the boy's cadet category. James Duncan fought with spirit in his first major competition, sadly not passing through the first round.

The men's under-70 kilos competition saw Jeremy Allen perform in his first major competition, where he fought well but was beaten by the English champion. Enzo is very pleased with everyone's efforts.

BT EXACT, Ipswich

20th October 2002
Following hot on the heals of her success the previous day, Hannah Clevely kept her kime (focus) and competed in the mixed brown belt Kata category, winning third place.

Mathew Farr came fifth in the black belt juniors.

In the long-awaited showdown between Clare Bonello and Charlotte Thomas, who has only recently graduated from the under-16s to the ladies grouping, both performed incredibly well. There was just 0.1 between them, with Charlotte coming first and Clare second.

Enzo is absolutely delighted with their performances, and was quite pleased when he himself won first place in the black belt category.

Chief instructor Chris Thompson (7th Dan) congratulated all of the competitors who were, once again, flying the BTKA flag.

Higashi competition, Wolverhampton

The Thompson Trophy 2002

11th October 2002
The Thompson Trophy will be held on Sunday 17th November at the Canons leisure centre in Mitcham. So that's just over a month for the juniors to prepare themselves for the competition.

Banstead Karate Club did well last year, and even made the newspapers.

Christmas party

Fancy an evening eating far too much, drinking nearly too much and talking about karate hardly at all? The exact time, date and venue for the festive club meal is yet to be decided but, if you are interested, have a chat with the organisers Katherine and Fariha. Senior club members (16+ years) only, I'm afraid.

We'll post the final details here when we know them!

The site is searchable

Thursday 3rd October 2002
The site search engine is now available. This powerful system allows you to look for news stories, photos and other bits and pieces. You can search for single or multiple words, and even look for phrases.

For example, type junior championship to show all pages containing the words junior, juniors or championship. You can narrow down your search by putting it in inverted commas like this, "junior championship". This will show only the pages that contain the phrase junior championship.
