Chief Instructor Sensei Enzo Quirino’s speech, snuggled between some good food and a dance with DJ Alp, was the highlight of the event. Sensei reflected on the major achievements of the Association from 2009, which included the establishing of various new clubs, EKK’s first English Open Karate Championship held last May and securing the Grass Roots Grant from Thames Community Foundation.

Many people have assisted Sensei Enzo throughout the course of the year to accomplish these various achievements. Awards were given for the Instructors and Assistant Instructors, as well as various members of the EKK Staff who work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running and moreover maintain the overall professionalism of the Association.

Our sponsors BAE Systems and K-Brand Martial Arts Sportswear also awarded improvement and commitment shields to students who have excelled in 2009 - Natasha Nussbaum, Eliza Jones and Jaye Gearing. The Junior and Senior Karate-Ka of the Year awards, presented for respect and loyalty to the Association throughout the year were awarded to Michael Perkins and Claire Read respectively.

Finally, the latest black belts were presented with their certificates after having graded for their belts on the annual summer Gasshuku in Majorca, earlier in 2009. Charlotte Bowie, Abigail Jenkins and Natasha Nussbaum received their 1st Dan certificates and Claire Read received her 2nd Dan certificate. Next year’s potential graders also received the first invitations for the summer Gasshuku 2010.

Sensei took the time to look ahead at EKK’s plans for the new year; the establishment of the British Karate Team League, the introduction of the new Sports Licence the new relationship with K-Brand and the new style of gradings were all noted. With a lot to plan, develop and look forward over the next few months, Sensei concludes on last year’s achievements and the Black Belt Presentation Evening 2010: Another busy year (2009) as come to an end and for sure a busy one, I just would like to take this opportunity to thank every body in the Association for working so hard through out the year, hoping that this year will be as good and busy as the previous years, every ones effort is for sure appreciated.

See you all in the dojo.

Arigatou Gozaimashita!!!!!!!!!!!
