Over the past few weekends, England Karate Kan (Association) has held several courses for its members which have included a squad session with friends Links Karate Kai of EKKA, with their coach, Sensei Paul Harris; a kata course for coloured belts as well as a brown and black belt grading session. All the courses were well attended and beneficial for those involved

The squad session with LKK involved separating the participants into two – kata and kumite sessions – with Sensei Enzo taking the kata session whilst Sensei Paul Harris took the kumite. Both sessions worked by building knowledge; breaking down the fight into basic techniques and building on these to demonstrate an accomplished kata or competent bout - a successful formula for winning competition.

The kata course also worked on building knowledge. The participants were divided into grades and revised previously taught katas before learning new kata ahead of the next Association grading in December. Chief Instructor Sensei Enzo also guided the seniors through the bunkai or application of the kata, bringing the kata to life whilst showing their complexity also.

Looking ahead to the December grading were the brown belts who attended the higher grade course last weekend. As well as revising kihon, the black belts present were particularly eager to learn advanced pairs on the course as they begin their preparation for the Dan grading in Majorca this summer. Sensei Enzo then took the brown and black belts through all the grading katas

Sensei Enzo concluded; 'For the past few months the Association has been so active all round, from the sport side of things to the traditional side - especially the last few weeks with preparation for the BKTL in the new year and also for the new sport section which will be revealed at the presentation in January.. As we slowly wind down for the long awaited Christmas break our efforts are now focused on the last brown belt grading of the year and of course preparing for the Black Belt presentation.

I will take this opportunity to thank the EKK Staff and the Senior Instructors for their tremendous efforts in the last twelve months - they have worked tiresly throughout, enabling the Association to grow in strength. This would not be possible without the great team I have and am lucky to work with, thank you.

Lastly I would like to wish all EKK members, friends and true supporters a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous new year 2010 - See you all in class!'
