22nd November 2009
Over fifty students from England Karate Kan (Association) attended the November grading hoping to pass their examination and gain their next belts in karate. Though there were many junior karate-ka in attendance, the quality of the grading and the focus of the students was impressively high, pleasing Chief Instructor Sensei Quirino.
Before the students graded, time was spent warming up and perfecting techniques with the senior instructors; Sensei’s Howard, Claire, Michael, Dan and Paul divided the graders into smaller groups to allow for more specific training and better preparation. Throughout this time each student worked hard and continued with this effort during their grading also.
Each grading consisted of basic punches and blocks, kihon and fitness. The level of difficulty increased throughout the day however as the higher grade students performed kihon, combinations and fitness for over an hour, in addition to several kata and many bouts of sparring. The students will be told the results of their grading in their respective dojos over the following weeks.
Sensei Enzo commented on the day; 'It's nice to see karate-ka from the various EKK Clubs, taught by different Instructors, meeting together on important occasions such as official gradings. Each club is maintaining an excellent standard of karate - the quality is being passed down from each sensei to student successfully. This can only mean that the Association is growing from strength to strength, and for the last couple years we have not stopped working hard towards a stronger and healthier Association.I thank all my senior instructor and staff that helps the smooth running of the Association.
I would like to thank the administration team for yet again doing an excellent job in registering every karate-ka for their grading, I would also like to thank the senior instructors for the training provided to each grade group prior to the examination by the selected panel. Finally, well done to all the karate-ka that graded. Keep up the good work.'
