15th November 2009

England Karate Kan (Association) held a self-defence course for its karate-ka and members of the local community. The course was headed by self-defence master Sensei Sergio Marcelo Florentino 4th Dan, and concluded Sensei Sergio’s first visit to the Association.

altThe three hour course provided an overview of self-defence techniques, from basic strikes and kicks, to locks, blocks and weapon attacks. The course catered for all levels; from those who are new to martial arts disciplines through to the senior black belts.

With over fifty in attendance, the last part of the course was divided into three sections to cater for more specific needs with women working on gun attacks, men on knife attacks, and the senior black belts working on advanced blocking and throwing techniques.

As EKK look forward to forthcoming sessions with Sensei Sergio, Sensei Enzo commented on the course;

'I was very satisfied with todays course - we had a very good response from the members of EKK as well as members of the public who did not want to miss out on this great opportunity.

As the leading professional martial arts club in the area, EKK are pleased to provide such services as self-defence courses; we are proud to be able to offer these opportunities to members of the local community.

The follow up course is scheduled for the new year. We are hoping that even more people will come along to experience such an important course.

Finally, a big thank you goes to Sensei Sergio for his time and knowledge on the day and over the past few weeks in the dojo'.
