England Karate Kan (Association) held a kumite course this weekend to prepare our karate-ka for the third England Karate Kan Challenge to be held on the 8th November. The course was also the second of ten sessions funded by the Thames Community Foundation’s Grass Roots Grant, which intends to develop the knowledge of the Association’s members and provide new opportunities also.
After stretching, the seventy karate-ka in attendance began a series of kumite drills which revised basic techniques whilst working the fitness of the class. As Sensei James’ techniques and repertoire became more complicated, Sensei’s Sophie, Howard, Claire, Paul, Paulo, Dan and Michael were on hand to explain and demonstrate.
Chief Instructor Sensei Enzo then divided the karate-ka into groups based on age and grade. Simulating the competition set-up, the students were given categories and were encouraged to compete and demonstrate their kata and skills in fighting. As the students gained experience, the EKK Staff also had the opportunity to develop their skills as table officials, whilst the Sensei’s worked as the judges.
As a course which was designed to help members of the Association at large, England Karate Kan (Association) thank the Thames Community Foundation for enabling such valuable teaching and experience. Sensei Enzo concluded; ‘The course was attended by a range of students and benefitted not only those training, but those who work as staff and contribute as part of the EKK team also’.
Thank you all !!!!!!!!
