The annual gasshuku to C’an Picafort, Majorca was another successful trip this year, with much intense training to prepare the karate-ka in attendance for the hard season of karate training ahead.

DOMINIC WYNESS and NATASHA NUSSBAUM, two of England Karate Kan’s competitors and current England A Squad athletes, travelled to Salzburg to compete in the Junior Austrian Open last weekend. Competition at this level is inevitably difficult. Despite this however, both squad members produced some excellent results and learned much from the experience.

The three-hour course designed primarily for current squad members on this occasion, revised kata and kumite techniques, much needed ahead of several major upcoming competitions.

Last weekend, England Karate Kan (Association) hosted the 2nd English Open Karate Championships at Tolworth Recreation Centre, Surrey. With over six hundred entries, from new to seasoned athletes, the event was successful and looks set to improve every year.

It was a busy few days for England Karate Kan (Association) last weekend, with squad sessions, courses and competitions all crammed into two hectic days.

After the usual morning kumite class for the junior squad, Sensei Paul took the kata squad through their paces as Sensei Enzo had travelled to Wales to meet with Sensei Andrew Kanias’s squad in a specialised training session. Meanwhile in the traditional side of karate, a black belt course took place at the Green Lane dojo to assist the Dan graders with preparation for the Gasshuku grading in July.

Tolworth Recreation Centre was the venue for the next TCF Training session with Sensei Anthoni Everitt.

The course was well attended from beginners to National Champions. The course covered basic techniques and advance combination techniques for the advanced students in the shape of partner work, team games and light sparring sessions to music.

WKU Invitational Championships

A small group of the England Karate Kan (Association) squad competed in WKU’s Invitational event this weekend. After the lessons learned at EKF’s National Championships and ahead of the English Open Karate Championships at the end of the month, the competition was seen as an opportunity to revise kata primarily.
