INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We want your child to enjoy learning karate with the EKK and will do our best to make them feel welcome and secure. We hope that the following information will answer some of the questions you may have as parents. If there is anything else you would like to know, please ask your child's instructor.

Who will be teaching my child?

Our instructors are black belts, licensed to teach through the English Karate Federation. All key staff have obtained appropriate police checks from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Can anyone learn karate?

The EKK welcomes students whatever their background, culture or ability. We recognise that people are individuals and have different goals and we try to help each person achieve their own goals within their own ability levels.

Do I have to fill in any forms?

All our students must complete a health questionnaire before they can start training. This enables us to cater for any special needs. In some cases a doctor's note may be required. All members will also need a licence.

Your instructor will give you an application form when you are ready to join.

What about child protection?

All our staff who have direct contact with children have been trained in child protection issues. The EKK follows the guidelines and procedures for good practice recommended by the English Karate Federation. Copies are available on request. If you have any concerns, please contact our senior instructor in the class or call 0780 122 6108.

What about insurance?

In addition to the Malden Centre's public liability insurance, the EKK club has its own professional indemnity insurance policy. A copy is available should you wish to see it.

What happens if my child has an accident?

Our chief instructor Enzo Quirino holds a current First Aid at Work qualification. In the event of an accident, the Malden Centre has an established procedure with first aid qualified staff always on duty. Any accident must be documented according to the Health and Safety Executive guidelines and copies sent to them.

Parents will be contacted immediately in the event of a serious accident. Minor incidents will be notified to parents at the end of the session.

How will I be kept informed of my child's progress?

The EKK has an open door policy. Parents are welcome to watch any training session and many have taken up the sport themselves as a result! Our instructors are happy to discuss any issues or questions you have either before or after the sessions.

For important information on grading dates, social events or special training sessions, we will send a notice to parents via the children. Don't forget we also have a notice board in the Malden Centre and this  web site.
